Rootdown specializes in single-varietal, single-vineyard wines from organically farmed vineyards in Mendocino, Sonoma, and Amador Counties, producing refined expressions of varieties like Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Savagnin, and Trousseau. The stylistic hallmarks of Rootdown wines are distinct: low alcohol, high acidity, minimal intervention, native fermentations, little to no new oak, and very limited sulfur.

Foot trodden and soaked on the skins for 24 hours. Once pressed off and settled in tank, the fermentation and aging happen in neutral oak barrels. Once the wine is dry, it is racked to tank as early as possible to retain the freshness of this rosé.

Alpine strawberry, sage, and subtle spice, leading to a palate with natural green apple acidity, delicate tea-like tannins, and a clean, stony finish.

Rootdown Wine Cellars was founded in 2014 by Mike Lucia, a Sonoma County native whose experience includes Ridge, Goldeneye and Copain. The name refers to the vine's relationship with soil, and the project has evolved toward organically farmed, site-specific wines with a particular fascination for Jura varieties. Rootdown now works closely with Cole Ranch in Mendocino, producing Trousseau, Poulsard, Savagnin, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alongside wine from old dry-farmed Riesling and Bordeaux varieties. The cellar approach is restrained and transparent, yielding energetic, food-friendly wines that favor freshness, texture and savory complexity over polish or weight.
