Grape: Sangiovese
Vintage: 2020
Type: Red

This low-intervention red wine is a pure expression of sangiovese produced by winemaker Alessandro Campatelli in Gaiole in Chianti. The fruit is hand-harvested from estate rows grown on high-altitude terraces composed of complex calcareous clay and schist soils. The grapes undergo a traditional native yeast fermentation and an extended skin maceration inside neutral concrete vats, avoiding heavy extraction. It matures in large used oak casks to allow the structural components to integrate without wood dominance.

It pours a ruby color, releasing vibrant, layered aromatics of fresh cherries, field flowers, and earthy tones. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame is juicy and precise, balancing an exceptionally silky texture with a bright line of natural acidity. Savory undertones of garden herbs, tobacco, and mild baking spices develop across the core without overwhelming the fruit-driven profile. Soft, fine-grained tannins provide a smooth structural grip. It concludes with a clean, dry, and persistent finish.

Riecine is a Chianti Classico estate in Gaiole that has long stood for purity, high-elevation Sangiovese and a refusal to make Tuscan wine heavier than it needs to be. Founded in the 1970s by John Dunkley and Palmina Abbagnano, the estate helped shape a more elegant idea of Chianti, and later winemakers have continued that path with organic farming and careful cellar work. Riecine's wines favor red fruit, lift, fine tannin and transparency over oak and extraction. At their best, they show Sangiovese as a grape of perfume and nerve, not just rusticity or power.
