Quintodecimo Jaune d'Arles Greco di Tufo DOCG 2024
QuintodecimoGrape: Greco
Vintage: 2021
Type: White
The Quintodecimo Jaune d'Arles Greco di Tufo DOCG 2024 is a profound and intensely mineral expression of Irpinia's unique volcanic terroir. The wine presents a luminous golden-straw color, living up to its name (Jaune d'Arles, or Arles Yellow), and offers a complex bouquet of ripe apricot, peach, and quince layered with distinctive notes of flint, white pepper, and smoky minerals. On the palate, it is full-bodied and powerful, with a rich, textural mouthfeel perfectly framed by firm, refreshing acidity and a persistent, savory, saline finish that promises excellent longevity. This single-vineyard "cru" wine is a rigorous interpretation of Greco di Tufo, with vinification emphasizing depth and structure. After a long, gentle pressing of hand-harvested grapes, the juice is fermented in both temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (70%) and new French oak barrels (30%). The wine then undergoes an extended eight-month aging period on its fine lees, with periodic stirring (bâtonnage), which enriches the body and complexity, giving the wine a structure often likened to that of a white wine with the soul of a red.
Azienda Agricola Quintodecimo is a highly regarded winery situated in the mountainous Irpinia area of Campania, Italy, a region known for its unique volcanic and clay soils and favorable microclimate. Founded in 2001 by the renowned enologist and professor Luigi Moio and his wife, Laura Di Marzo, the estate is the culmination of Moio's extensive research into native varietals and a winemaking philosophy rooted in the perfect harmony between science, innovation, and terroir.
The winery's name, Quintodecimo, is a nod to the area's ancient Roman past. Located primarily in Mirabella Eclano, the estate cultivates indigenous Campania varieties—Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, and Falanghina—across its meticulously managed, organically farmed single-cru vineyards. Quintodecimo's core mission is to produce small quantities of wines that offer the highest possible expression of their varietal character and unique site. This dedication to quality results in acclaimed wines such as the powerful Taurasi DOCG reds (like *Vigna Quintodecimo* and *Vigna Grande Cerzito*) and the complex, age-worthy whites (like *Exultet* Fiano di Avellino and *Giallo d'Arles* Greco di Tufo). The overall style is often described as combining the finesse and elegance of Burgundy with the structure and power of Bordeaux, all while maintaining a pristine core of varietal purity.
