Grape: Grüner Veltliner
Vintage: 2025
Type: White

Sourced from the "Hühnergarten" single vineyard in the Weinviertel region of Lower Austria, this single-varietal white comes from sustainably farmed vines rooted in deep loess and gravel soils. Winemaker Erwin Poller practices low-intervention winemaking, hand-harvesting the fruit early to preserve vibrant natural acidity and varietal spice. The grapes undergo a gentle pressing and a short, cool spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, avoiding oak entirely. Left on its fine lees for several months to build subtle mid-palate texture before being bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a crisp, direct, and unpretentious expression of Austrian grüner veltliner.

A pale straw-yellow color with light green reflections opens to fragrant aromas of fresh green apple, white peach, crushed lentils, and cracked white pepper. On the palate, focused flavors of tart pear, lemon zest, green plum, and wild herbs are delivered over a light, nimble frame. A bright, crunchy line of natural acidity drives through the palate, keeping the mouthfeel crisp, fluid, and highly refreshing. It closes on a long, clean finish marked by persistent notes of salty citrus, radish, and crushed stone.

Winery

Pollerhof is a family estate in Austria's Weinviertel, now led by Erwin Poller, whose work gives Gruner Veltliner and other local varieties a playful but serious stage. The estate farms loess and limestone-influenced soils around Roschitz, producing wines that often balance crispness with a charming, slightly offbeat personality. Poller is known for fresh, aromatic whites, sparkling experiments and labels that do not take themselves too seriously, but the farming and cellar work are careful. The wines are clean, bright and peppery, showing the Weinviertel as a place of everyday refreshment with more nuance than its reputation sometimes suggests.
