Poderi Colla Nebbiolo d'Alba 2020
Poderi CollaGrape: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2020
Type: Red
This classic Piedmontese red wine is a pure varietal expression of Nebbiolo produced by the Colla family in Alba. Sourced from estate plots rich in calcareous clay and sand, the old vines are managed under sustainable viticulture protocols. The hand-harvested grapes are destemmed and ferment spontaneously with native wild yeasts in neutral concrete vats, avoiding modern extraction techniques. It undergoes a natural maturation process, aging for several months in large neutral Slavonian oak casks.
It shows a translucent ruby hue, releasing clear aromatics of wild cherry, red currant, and fresh rose petals. On the palate, the light-to-medium body is fluid and precise, balancing crunchy berry fruit with a fine-grained tannin grip. Savory undertones of white pepper and damp earth add depth across the mouthfeel without feeling heavy. A clean thread of alpine acidity runs through the center, keeping the profile lively. It finishes completely bone-dry, leaving a light mineral trail.
Poderi Colla is a deeply traditional Langhe estate run by the Colla family, whose history includes some of the most important chapters in modern Piedmont. Beppe Colla helped define single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco at Prunotto before the family established Poderi Colla, drawing on vineyards in Barbaresco, Barolo and Dolcetto territory. The style is classical: long macerations, large casks, patient aging and no rush to soften Nebbiolo's natural structure. These are wines of old-school proportion, fragrant with rose, tar, red fruit and earth, built for the table and for time rather than immediate applause.
