Philipp Brundlmayer Riesling Kaiserstiege 2023
Philipp BrundlmayerGrape: Riesling
Vintage: 2023
Type: White
Sourced from the historic Kaiserstiege vineyard in the Kremstal, this dry white wine highlights a site-specific focus on steep gravelly slopes. Philipp Brundlmayer manages the old riesling vines manually to capture optimal fruit balance and structural intensity without modern chemical alterations. Spontaneous fermentation relies on native vineyard wild yeasts inside temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, avoiding wood barrel contact. The liquid matures on its fine lees for several months to encourage natural structural harmony prior to a clean bottling.
It pours a crystal clear straw color, releasing delicate aromas of apricot, blossom honey, and candied lime zest. A medium-bodied frame balances green apple flavors with a bracing, racy line of mountain acidity. The texture remains exceptionally lively and precise, showcasing a chiseled mineral undercurrent across mid-palate volume. Subtle notes of fresh peach add depth to the core without introducing heavy weight. It concludes with a long, dry, and mouthwateringly salty finish.
Philipp Brundlmayer is part of the new generation in Austria, connected to one of the country's most respected wine families while building a voice of his own. Working in the Kamptal and surrounding areas, he focuses on cool-climate Austrian varieties such as Gruner Veltliner and Riesling, with an eye toward precise farming, clean fruit and restrained cellar choices. The wines carry the clarity expected from the region: peppery citrus, stone fruit, mineral tension and a gentle herbal edge. Rather than pushing for grandeur, the style emphasizes drinkability, detail and the everyday beauty of Austrian white wine when handled carefully.
