This red wine is an estate syrah from Peay Vineyards on the far western Sonoma Coast, close enough to the Pacific that fog and wind shape the fruit as much as soil does. La Bruma, Spanish for mist, names the cool, marine influence that keeps the estate's syrah lean and peppery rather than jammy. 2011 was a famously cool, difficult vintage across Sonoma, which pushed the wine further toward restraint than a typical year would.

It displays a dark violet color, opening with cracked pepper, black olive, and dark berry fruit. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame is cool and savory, balancing dark fruit against a peppery, slightly meaty edge typical of cool-climate syrah. Tannins are fine and firm rather than soft. Acidity is high, a mark of both the site and the vintage. It finishes long and savory, with pepper and salinity outlasting the fruit.
