This low-intervention red wine is a pure varietal expression of barbera crafted by Mauro Spertino at his family's estate in Mombercelli. Sourced from old bush vines planted on steep sandy clay hillsides, the fruit develops high natural acidity and fine phenolics. The winemaking incorporates a spontaneous fermentation driven by native wild yeasts in neutral concrete vats, avoiding modern chemical corrections. It matures in large neutral oak casks to allow the structural components to settle.

It display a deep ruby color with purple glints, opening with fragrant aromatics of fresh red cherries, blackberries, plums, and violets. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame is juicy and balancing a concentrated fruit core with a fine structural line. A snappy wave of natural acidity runs through the center, keeping the fluid mouthfeel thoroughly refreshed. Notes of spice and earth add depth across the textured core. It finishes clean and dry, leaving a savory trace.

Luigi Spertino is the quietly traditional estate from Mombercelli in Monferrato, now best known through Mauro Spertino's deeply personal work with Barbera, Grignolino and Nebbiolo. The family farms old vines in Asti's hills and has remained committed to long aging, modest extraction and wines that speak in an old Piedmontese register. These are not glossy, modern bottlings; they are savory, structured and often released with bottle age, showing the dignity of varieties that can be overshadowed by Barolo and Barbaresco. Spertino's wines reward patience, with earth, dried flowers, red fruit and a firm sense of place.
