Inspired by the traditional, under-the-radar white blends of Cheverny in the Loire Valley, winemaker Gina Giugni brings together two varieties that rarely share a bottle in California. The fruit is sourced from rolling, sandy hillsides at the organically farmed Rancho Arroyo Grande Vineyard, bolstered by a few barrels of Demeter-certified biodynamic Chardonnay from the coastal Bassi Vineyard. The varieties are harvested in separate picks, foot-tread to soak on the skins overnight, and whole-bunch pressed into neutral French oak barrels for native fermentation. Aged on its fine lees for eight months, it represents a clever, boundary-pushing experiment that completely redefines Central Coast white blends.

In the glass, it pours a pale, hazy straw color with a youthful green rim. The nose offers an intriguing puzzle of aromas, balancing the bright lemon zest and grassy crunch of Sauvignon Blanc with a softer, fleshier layer of white peach and orchard blossom from the Chardonnay. The palate is defined by its striking dual nature: a "crystalline" streak of coastal salinity cuts through a subtly creamy, rounded texture born from the patient lees aging. This interplay of crisp citrus oil and gentle weight keeps the mid-palate delightfully fluid. The finish is remarkably dry and persistent, leaving behind a chalky, thirst-quenching impression of crushed stones and sea spray.

Lady of the Sunshine is the California project of Gina Giugni, a second-generation biodynamic farmer and winemaker based on the Central Coast. Raised at her family's Scar of the Sea and Chene vineyards orbit, she created Lady of the Sunshine to focus on regenerative farming and wines that feel transparent, coastal and alive. Her own Chene Vineyard in Edna Valley is farmed organically and biodynamically, while purchased fruit comes from growers with similar values. The wines, often Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay and playful blends, are made with native yeasts and minimal additions, favoring brightness, texture and a clean imprint of cool Pacific air.
