PerSe Inseparable Malbec 2021
Per SeGrape: Malbec
Vintage: 2021
Type: Red
This high-altitude red wine is a pure varietal bottling of malbec produced by David Bonomi and Edgardo Del Pópolo under the Per Se label. The fruit is hand-harvested from the Monasterio Vineyard in Gualtallary, where vines grow in complex sandy and calcareous limestone soils. The winemaking involves a spontaneous native fermentation inside concrete tanks followed by an extended thirty-day cold skin maceration to draw out nuance. It matures for twelve months in seasoned French oak barrels to allow the structure to settle.
It pours a deep purple color, opening with a primary nose of crushed plum, fresh cherry, violets, and faint lavender undertones. A light-to-medium frame delivers a tea-like mouthfeel with a juicy, refreshing, and taut flow. Clean flavors of red fruits blend with a chiseled mineral baseline driven by the calcareous soils. A vibrant wave of mountain acidity cuts through the center, keeping the fluid core exceptionally fresh.
Per Se is the Argentine project of Edgardo del Popolo and David Bonomi, two winemakers who focus on tiny high-altitude parcels in the Uco Valley. Their work centers on Gualtallary and other cool, limestone-influenced sites where Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay can show precision rather than sheer ripeness. The production is extremely small, the farming obsessive and the cellar approach quiet, often using concrete and neutral vessels to keep the attention on site. Per Se's wines are among Argentina's most detailed and mineral, speaking in a language of mountain light, calcareous soils, fine tannins and disciplined elegance.
