Gut Oggau Atanasius 2024
Gut OggauGrape: Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch
Vintage: 2024
Type: Red
This red wine is a blend of zweigelt and blaufränkisch from roughly 35-year-old biodynamic vines on gravel and limestone near Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland. The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented spontaneously in used 500- and 1,200-liter barrels with about 3 weeks on the skins. It then ages about 12 months in barrel without stirring. It is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfur.
It pours a vibrant purple-ruby, opening with dark cherry, blackberry, and violets. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame balances juicy fruit with soft, chalky tannins. Black pepper and a savory, earthy note sit underneath. Fresh acidity keeps it bright and easy. It finishes dry, crunchy, and clean.
