Grape: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2020
Type: Red

This organic red wine is produced by Giulia Negri, known locally as the Barolo Girl, from her high-altitude estate in La Morra. The nebbiolo vines grow in Tortonian marl and limestone soils surrounded by dense truffle forests, which lock in high acidity. Spontaneous fermentation relies on native vineyard wild yeasts in traditional neutral Slavonian oak casks, avoiding modern extraction techniques. It matures for twenty-four months in large oak tuns to allow the structural components to settle naturally.

It pours a clear garnet color, releasing complex aromas of red cherry, licorice, woodsmoke, and tar. The medium-bodied palate is deep and structured, pairing concentrated red currant fruit with a firm, assertive tannin backbone. Savory layers of iron, cedar, and dried rose petals unfold as the fluid mouthfeel develops. A bracing line of alpine acidity cuts through the structural weight, maintaining focus. It finishes long, dry, and persistent, leaving a mouthwatering mineral trail.

Giulia Negri, also known as the "Barolo Girl," is a respected winemaker in the Piedmont region of Italy. Her wines, known for their elegance and delicate expression of terroir, come from the high-altitude Serradenari cru in La Morra, the highest vineyard in the Barolo zone. Negri employs traditional techniques, including long, gentle macerations and spontaneous fermentations. She embraces sustainable and natural farming, using indigenous yeasts and minimizing filtration and other additives. Negri has moved away from smaller barrels toward larger oak casks (botti grandi), believing they are key to preserving the tension and character of the Nebbiolo grape.
