$45.00

Grape: Docetto d'Alba
Vintage: 2020
Type: Red

This small-production red wine is crafted by former geologist Fabio Gea from old vines rooted in the calcareous marl slopes of Piedmont. The estate manages the tiny plot organically, utilizing completely spontaneous native yeast fermentation inside custom-built stoneware containers. The winemaking focuses on long aging on the fine fermentation lees to encourage natural phenolic stability without wood manipulation or temperature corrections. This zero-zero process captures a raw varietal identity centered entirely on soil transparency.

It shows a bright ruby-purple color, releasing delicate aromas of dark cherry, wild raspberry, and violet petals over a background of stone. On the palate, the light-to-medium body is remarkably fluid and precise, balancing crunchy red fruit with a chiseled mineral baseline. Soft, fine-grained tannins provide a gentle grip across the fluid mouthfeel without aggressive extraction. A clean wave of mountain acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining great freshness. It finishes bone-dry.

Fabio Gea:

Fabio is a young winemaker making delicious, distinctive wines from tiny parcels around the Bricco in Barbaresco. He makes 18 different wines with a total production of around 5,000 bottles.

He has a few rows of vines from his grandfather’s property and rents a few more. Within the family’s property, there is Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Grignolino, which amount to less than one hectare.

A geologist turned winemaker, the handmade labels, bottles, and aging are uniquely Fabio Gea. We find these wines fascinating, one of our great joys is having such distinctive wines. Organic (not certified)
