Garcia Georgieva Finca Los Quemados Clarete 2021
Garcia GeorgievaGrape: Tempranillo
Vintage: 2021
Type: Red
This low-intervention red wine is a traditional clarete blend produced from the single vineyard Finca Los Quemados in Ribera del Duero. Goyo García Viadero and Diana Georgieva harvest the fruit from old bush vines planted on high-altitude terraces containing sandy loam and quartz. The winemaking features a co-fermentation of red and white varieties with indigenous wild yeasts in neutral concrete vats, avoiding heavy extraction. It matures without sulfur additions or wood makeup before being bottled unfiltered.
It pours a pale garnet color, opening with high-toned aromatics of red currant, sour cherry, and field flowers. On the palate, the light-bodied frame is fluid and energetic, focusing on an unmanipulated, fresh fruit presentation. Soft, fine-grained tannins provide a structural grip that coordinates nicely with a clean line of mountain acidity. Savory underscores of damp earth and white pepper add depth across the fluid core. It finishes bone-dry, leaving a light saline trace.
The Garcia Georgieva winery is a partnership between husband-and-wife winemakers Goyo García Viadero and Diana Semova Georgieva. Operating out of Ribera del Duero in Spain, they are renowned for producing elegant, natural wines that reflect traditional winemaking methods and a deep respect for their terroir. Goyo García Viadero comes from a prominent Ribera del Duero winemaking family but has chosen to follow a traditional, minimal-intervention path, rejecting modern trends like intense extraction and new oak. Inspired by natural winemakers in the Jura region, he focuses on organic farming, old vines, and letting the terroir speak for itself. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in old French oak barrels or stainless steel tanks in a cold, ancient Roman-era cellar dug out of limestone bedrock. No additives, fining, or filtration are used in their process.
