Grape: Mencía, Garnacha Tintorera, Brancellao, Merenzao, Grao Negro
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red

This red wine is a parcel blend of mencía, garnacha tintorera, brancellao, merenzao, and grao negro from old vineyards in Doade. The Envínate collective manages these steep terraces organically, where lower soils feature schist while upper slopes yield gneiss and quartz. The hand-picked grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with native wild yeasts, incorporating a significant whole-cluster component in neutral open vats. Aged in used French oak barrels, this bottling captures an authentic slate-driven site identity.

It pours a translucent ruby color, opening with high-toned aromas of fresh flowers, wild strawberries, and red plums over a background of stone. On the palate, the light-to-medium body is fluid and expressive, showcasing an airy mountain elegance. Taut, fine-grained tannins provide a silky structural grip across the mid-palate without feeling heavy or aggressive. A clean wave of natural acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining great freshness. It concludes bone-dry, leaving a lingering trail of graphite.

Envínate is a collective of four friends who create highly sought-after, terroir-driven wines from distinct, Atlantic-influenced regions across Spain. The name, which translates to "wine yourself," reflects their minimal intervention philosophy, using old-fashioned farming and winemaking methods to allow each parcel to express its character. Founded in 2005 by friends Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, and José Martínez, the group initially started as a winemaking consultancy before evolving into its own label. Envínate's methods involve working with organic and biodynamic principles in the vineyard, followed by fermentation with native yeasts and aging in old oak or concrete. They avoid fining, filtering, and use minimal to no sulfur.
