Grape: Mondeuse Noire, Persan
Vintage: 2023
Type: Red

This alpine red wine combines mondeuse noire and persan from forty-year-old vines grown on schistous marl and clay slopes in Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy. Winemaker Brice Omont manages the estate under strict biodynamic principles to preserve fruit purity. Hand-picked grapes are vinified with whole clusters and native wild yeasts, completely avoiding synthetic cellar additions. Aged for nine months in neutral French oak barrels, it allows the structural components to settle naturally.

It shows a deep ruby hue, releasing a bouquet of ripe red cherries, pomegranate, and violet blossoms. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame is crunchy and precise, balancing fresh red fruit flavors with an underlying iron-like minerality. Savory notes of black pepper and forest floor blend smoothly into the fruit core across the mid-palate. A clean wave of natural acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining excellent freshness. It finishes long, dry, and stony, leaving a mouthwatering trace.

Domaine des Ardoisières is a defining estate of modern Savoie, born from the restoration of abandoned mountain terraces above Cévins in the late 1990s. The project was initiated by Michel Grisard and has been led by Brice Omont since 2005, with vineyards farmed organically and according to biodynamic principles on extraordinarily steep, rocky slopes. The domaine works Alpine varieties including Altesse, Jacquère, Mondeuse, Persan and Mondeuse Blanche, often in field-inspired blends. Native fermentations, restrained sulfur and gentle élevage preserve the wines' vivid acidity, herbal detail and striking mineral intensity, making them reference points for mountain wine.
