Grape: Persan, Mondeuse Noire
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red

Sourced from the steep, terraced Coteau de Cevins vineyard, this alpine red wine represents a blend of ancient native varieties. Winemaker Brice Omont combines equal parts persan and mondeuse noire from rows farmed strictly under certified biodynamic viticulture protocols. The hand-harvested fruit undergoes a spontaneous native fermentation using whole clusters in neutral wooden vats, avoiding modern chemical corrections. The wine ages for twelve to eighteen months in neutral oak barrels to build structural definition.

It pours a deep ruby-purple color, opening with a complex nose of blackcurrant, wild raspberry, violet, and smoky graphite. On the palate, a voluptuous yet highly structured frame pairs concentrated fruit flavors with a serious, crunchy tannin framework. Savory notes of peppery spice and iron add depth across the fluid mouthfeel. A clean vein of high-altitude acidity runs underneath, keeping the palate refreshed. It finishes long and bone-dry, leaving a persistent saline impression.

Domaine des Ardoisières is a defining estate of modern Savoie, born from the restoration of abandoned mountain terraces above Cévins in the late 1990s. The project was initiated by Michel Grisard and has been led by Brice Omont since 2005, with vineyards farmed organically and according to biodynamic principles on extraordinarily steep, rocky slopes. The domaine works Alpine varieties including Altesse, Jacquère, Mondeuse, Persan and Mondeuse Blanche, often in field-inspired blends. Native fermentations, restrained sulfur and gentle élevage preserve the wines' vivid acidity, herbal detail and striking mineral intensity, making them reference points for mountain wine.
