Domaine de Vaccelli Quartz Blanc 2023
Domaine de VaccelliGrape: Carcaghjolu Bianco, Riminese, Ghjenuvese, Cudiverta
Vintage: 2023
Type: White
Crafted from a parcel of native varieties planted in 2013, this white wine highlights a rare look at ancestral Corsican ampelography. The blend co-ferments carcaghjolu bianco, riminese, ghjenuvese, and cudiverta, harvested by hand from sandy granitic soils. Winemaker Gérard Courrèges avoids modern synthetic corrections or additions, letting the wild indigenous yeasts drive the fermentation process. The wine undergoes regular lees contact in neutral containers to protect the natural texture and structural stability before bottling.
It displays a bright straw color, releasing expressive aromatics of yellow plum, white flowers, wildflower honey, and lime tree. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame balances a soft, generous volume with a firm structural line. Clean flavors of fresh pear and citrus oil interweave with a distinct vein of marine salinity. A clean wave of natural acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining great freshness. It finishes completely dry and crisp, leaving a persistent mineral impression.
Domaine de Vaccelli is a family-run winery located in the southern part of the Ajaccio appellation on the island of Corsica. Owned by the Courrèges family, the estate is renowned for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines from native Corsican grapes. Winemaker Gérard Courrèges, who took over from his father in 2000, has elevated the winery to international recognition. The estate has been farmed organically since 2008 and received organic certification in 2019. All vineyard work is done by hand. Gérard has integrated modern techniques while preserving tradition, using concrete eggs and large demi-muids (600-liter barrels) for fermentation and aging to allow the terroir to shine.
