Domaine de Vaccelli Granit '174' Rouge 2022
Domaine de VaccelliGrape: Sciaccarellu
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red
This rare micro-cuvée is sourced from a specific zero-point-one-seven-four hectare plot within an old-vine parcel called sciaccarellu du Milieu. The vines grow on a steep, south-east facing granite slope in the Ajaccio AOC of southern Corsica. Gérard Courrèges utilizes low-intervention practices, allowing a completely spontaneous fermentation driven by native wild yeasts. The wine ages for a prolonged period in a single seasoned wood cask to build structural harmony without wood makeup.
It displays a bright garnet-ruby color, releasing a deep nose of black cherry, blackberry, and leather shavings. On the palate, a medium-bodied, structured frame pairs dense dark fruit flavors with a serious, silky tannin framework. Savory notes of sweet spice and forest floor blend smoothly into the fruit core across the mid-palate. A clean, central thread of granite acidity cuts through the volume, maintaining excellent freshness. It finishes dry, leaving a long mineral trail.
Domaine de Vaccelli is a family-run winery located in the southern part of the Ajaccio appellation on the island of Corsica. Owned by the Courrèges family, the estate is renowned for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines from native Corsican grapes. Winemaker Gérard Courrèges, who took over from his father in 2000, has elevated the winery to international recognition. The estate has been farmed organically since 2008 and received organic certification in 2019. All vineyard work is done by hand. Gérard has integrated modern techniques while preserving tradition, using concrete eggs and large demi-muids (600-liter barrels) for fermentation and aging to allow the terroir to shine.
