Grape: Vermentino, Bianco Gentile
Vintage: 2023
Type: White

This island white wine is a precise parcel selection from the family's organically managed slopes in the Ajaccio appellation of southern Corsica. Winemaker Gérard Courrèges co-ferments the indigenous vermentino and bianco gentile grapes to explore local structural limits. The fruit is hand-harvested from high-altitude plots rooted in sandy granite soils that naturally protect the must's natural acidity. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native wild yeasts in neutral vessels, completely avoiding modern temperature adjustments or wood flavor intervention.

It pours a pale straw color with gold highlights, opening with aromatics of wildflower honey, white flowers, and candied lemons. A medium-to-full-bodied frame pairs dense citrus nectar flavors with a clean line of mineral acidity. Subtle notes of sweet baking spices develop nicely across the waxy, layered mouthfeel. The native grape blend lends a distinct structural cushion that grounds the finish cleanly. It concludes bone-dry and persistent, leaving a mouthwatering trace of stone.

Domaine de Vaccelli is a family-run winery located in the southern part of the Ajaccio appellation on the island of Corsica. Owned by the Courrèges family, the estate is renowned for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines from native Corsican grapes. Winemaker Gérard Courrèges, who took over from his father in 2000, has elevated the winery to international recognition. The estate has been farmed organically since 2008 and received organic certification in 2019. All vineyard work is done by hand. Gérard has integrated modern techniques while preserving tradition, using concrete eggs and large demi-muids (600-liter barrels) for fermentation and aging to allow the terroir to shine.
