This red wine is a pure varietal bottling of pinot noir produced by Jean-Marie Fourrier from ancient vines in Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate manages these old plots on calcareous clay soils, utilizing hand-harvesting and spontaneous native yeast fermentation in neutral vats. Winemaking prioritizes gentle infusions over heavy extraction, using zero new oak to protect a transparent look at fruit. Matured in seasoned barrels, it allows structural components to settle naturally.

It shows a bright ruby color, releasing an inviting bouquet of red plums, blackcurrants, and delicate peony blossoms. A smooth frame showcases a harmonious balance of fruit and fine-grained, silky tannins. Savory notes of damp earth and subtle baking spice develop nicely as the fluid mouthfeel expands. A clean thread of natural acidity runs through the center, keeping the texture fresh and adding mineral-driven tension. It finishes long, dry, and persistent with a clean mineral trace.

Winery

Domaine Fourrier is a family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, where Jean-Marie Fourrier took over in 1994 after experience with Henri Jayer and Domaine Drouhin in Oregon. The holdings are concentrated in Gevrey, with additional parcels in neighboring villages including Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis. Old vines are central to the domaine: many parcels are several decades old, and fruit from younger vines has often been sold rather than included in the estate bottlings. Pinot Noir provides the foundation of the range.

In the cellar, grapes are destemmed and extracted gently, with aging designed to preserve the fruit’s detail and texture. New oak is limited, the wines are not racked during maturation, and retained carbon dioxide helps reduce the need for sulfur. The result is a style associated with clear fruit and a silky structure. Village Gevrey-Chambertin is joined by premier crus such as Clos Saint-Jacques and the rare grand cru Griotte-Chambertin. The estate wines remain distinct from the separate Jean-Marie Fourrier négociant label.
