Grape: Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault
Vintage: 2021
Type: Red

This red wine comes from single-vineyard plots inside a meteorite impact crater in Faugères, featuring a blend of syrah, grenache, and cinsault. Winemakers Paul Jenkins and Paul Gillon manage the vines under strict certified biodynamic farming protocols. Roots dig directly into shattered schist soils that possess a unique magnetic signature, naturally limiting yields and locking in minerality. Aged in neutral French oak barrels, it allows structural components to settle without wood flavor dominance.

It pours a deep ruby color, opening with expressive aromas of black cherry, wild plum, and wild Mediterranean scrubland. On the palate, a medium-bodied frame balances a dense core of dark fruit with a firm, chalky tannin profile. Savory notes of fresh rosemary, thyme, and wild lavender develop as the wine breathes. A clean vein of schistous acidity runs underneath, keeping the mouthfeel fresh. It finishes completely bone-dry, leaving a lingering trail of smoky graphite.

Domaine du Météore is a certified organic and biodynamic winery uniquely built around a confirmed meteorite crater. Its vineyards span the famous Faugères and Saint-Chinian appellations, where vines are rooted in mineral-rich schist soil that gives the wines their distinctive character. The estate produces a range of red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines with an ethos of minimal intervention, letting the unique terroir shine through in each bottle. The vineyards are planted on rare schist soils, with blue schist in the Faugères appellation and yellow schist in Saint-Chinian. These soils impart distinct minerality and character to the wines. The winemaking process focuses on low-intervention, organic, and biodynamic methods to best express the unique terroir.
