While the most remarkable wine from this area is clearly Clos Rougeard, the young Ludovich Sanzay and his parents, Didier and Celine, are making some formidable wines. Farmed organically and vinified simply, from old vines of sandy & chalky soils in Saumur-Champigny. Dry Farmed, de-stemmed, and a 30 day maceration takes place, before a 10 month aging in concrete, creates this wonderful bottle that can be aged for a while. Nose of medium dark red purple fruit with subtle earth and minor herb notes. Ripe aromatics lead into a wine with nice grit, ripe tannins and a sensuous sweet middle. Medium weight, showing nice finesse and luscious cherry fruit.

Domaine des Sanzay is a fifth-generation, organic-certified winery in the Varrains village of France's Loire Valley. Winemakers Céline and Didier Sanzay produce Cabernet Franc-based red wines and Chenin Blanc-based sparkling and still white wines. The Sanzay family has farmed their 28 hectares of vineyards sustainably for over 15 years and received organic certification in 2016. They use no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. heir vineyards feature the region's signature tuffeau, a chalky limestone that holds water for the vines during the dry summer months. Wines are aged in either stainless steel, concrete vats, or oak barrels, depending on the specific cuvée.
