Weingut Immich-Batterieberg Detonation Riesling Sekt Extra Brut
Weingut Immich-BatteriebergGrape: Riesling
Vintage: NV
Type: Sparkling
Flavors of limey citrus, pears, and a touch of white tea mingle on the palate. The acidity is mouth watering and palate cleansing. Great to know that Gernot Kollman (owner/vigneron since 2006) farms organically and practices natural wine making in the cellar.
Weingut Immich-Batterieberg is one of the historic estates of the Mosel, named for the Batterieberg vineyard that was created in the nineteenth century by blasting into the steep slate hillside. Today, under Gernot Kollmann, the domaine has regained a reputation for dry and off-dry Rieslings of remarkable precision. The vineyards include Batterieberg, Steffensberg, Ellergrub and Zeppwingert, many with old ungrafted vines. Fermentations are spontaneous, aging is slow and the wines are allowed to find their own balance. They are mineral, herbal and quietly powerful, carrying the Mosel's slate intensity without sweetness as a crutch.
