Ciro Picariello 906 Fiano di Avellino 2024
Ciro PicarielloGrape: Fiano
Vintage: 2024
Type: White
Sourced exclusively from the high-altitude "906" parcel in Summonte, planted at over 650 meters elevation, this single-vineyard bottling represents Ciro Picariello's benchmark expression of Campania white wine. Rooted in steep, volcanic ash and clay-limestone soils, the hand-harvested fiano undergoes a long, temperature-controlled fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine ages on its fine lees for roughly 12 months with minimal intervention, bypassing oak entirely to preserve its laser-focused minerality and raw varietal character. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a dense, high-acid white built for incredible purity and cellaring potential.
A bright straw-yellow color leads into complex aromas of smoky flint, green apple, hazelnut, lemon zest, and white flowers. On the palate, focused flavors of white peach, salt-cured citrus, crushed stone, and wild herbs unfold over a textured, medium-bodied frame. High, driving natural acidity cuts directly through the wine's rich leesy weight, providing remarkable vertical tension and energy. It finishes exceptionally long, bone-dry, and intensely saline, leaving a lasting impression of smoky volcanic ash and bitter grapefruit pith.
