Chateau Le Puy
Price:$85.00

Grape: Sémillon
Vintage: 2024
Type: White

This white wine is 100% sémillon from a single plot on Le Puy's limestone plateau, the estate's only white. The vines are farmed biodynamically, and the grapes ferment on their own yeasts. The wine is raised in old barrels and bottled with no added sulfur. Production is very small each year.

It pours a bright golden straw, opening with ripe pear, lemon curd, and exotic flowers. On the palate, the full-bodied frame balances rich, waxy fruit with a fresh mineral spine. Honey, beeswax, and a hint of toasted almond sit underneath. Gentle acidity keeps the texture lively. It finishes long, round, and clean.

Winery

Château Le Puy is a historic winery in the Bordeaux region of France, recognized as a pioneer in biodynamic and natural winemaking. The Amoreau family has owned and farmed the property since 1610, resisting the use of chemical products and commercial trends for centuries. The estate has never used synthetic fertilizers or pesticides and was among the first in France to gain organic and biodynamic certifications. They maintain a balanced, self-sustaining ecosystem by preserving a significant portion of their land as forests and wild areas. The winery briefly gained international attention when its 2003 vintage was featured in the Japanese manga series The Drops of God. Following a dispute over appellation rules in 2017, the winery left the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux appellation and bottles its wine as "Vin de France" to maintain its traditional winemaking style.
