Grape: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2017
Type: Red

Crafted from the rare nebbiolo Rosé clone at the Cascina Baricchi estate in Barbaresco, this red wine is presented in a magnum format. The fruit comes from a small parcel of mature vines rooted in complex clay and limestone soils. Spontaneous fermentation relies on native vineyard yeasts, followed by a prolonged maceration period to manage the structural phenolics. It undergoes a lengthy aging process in neutral wood casks and cement vats to allow the components to integrate.

It pours a translucent ruby color with garnet reflections, opening with intense aromas of dried violets, rose petals, and macerated cherry. On the palate, the medium-to-full-bodied frame pairs dense plum fruit with a firm, chalky tannin backbone. Savory layers of underbrush, tobacco leaf, and licorice develop nicely as the fluid mouthfeel opens up. A racy vein of alpine acidity cuts through the structural weight, maintaining focus.

Cascina Baricchi is a small, traditional, family-owned winery located in the Piedmont region of Italy, known for crafting elegant, age-worthy Barbaresco. Led by Natale Simonetta and his wife Francesca, the estate is a champion of the rare Nebbiolo Rosé clone, which contributes to the wines' delicate and complex character. The winemaking is staunchly traditional, with foot-crushing for gentle extraction, long fermentations, extended maceration, and aging in large, neutral oak barrels. They use only natural yeasts for fermentation.
