Ca' di Press Dolcetto d'Alba 2023
Ca' di PressGrape: Dolcetto
Vintage: 2023
Type: Red
Produced from the family's small estate vineyards in Monforte d'Alba, this traditional red wine showcases the clay and limestone terroir of the Langhe. The hand-harvested grapes are vinified using low-intervention protocols, relying entirely on spontaneous native yeast fermentation in neutral tanks. The winemaking prioritizes a gentle infusion process over heavy extraction to protect the natural, fresh profile of the dolcetto grape. It completes its maturation in stainless steel vats, completely bypassing oak wood manipulation.
It radiates a clear purple-ruby color, releasing lively aromatics of fresh blackberry, wild strawberry, and blue flowers. On the palate, the light-to-medium body is exceptionally juicy and direct, focusing on a bright, high-energy fruit presentation. A racy, zippy acidity cuts through the structural volume, keeping the fluid mouthfeel thoroughly refreshed. Soft, unassuming tannins provide a smooth framework that coordinates nicely with the fruit. It finishes completely dry and clean, leaving a mouthwatering trail of fresh berries.
Ca' di Press, which means "House of Pressenda" in the Piedmontese dialect, is a small, artisanal winery in the Perno hamlet of Monforte d'Alba within the Piedmont region of Italy. Though the Pressenda family has been farming grapes here since the early 1900s, it was only in 2018 that the new generation, sisters Alice and Cristina, started bottling their own wine. The wines are made with a hands-off approach to reflect the Perno terroir, which features calcareous clay marl and sandstone.
