00 Wines VGR Pinot Noir 2023
00WinesGrape: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2023
Type: Red
This red blend pairs old, own-rooted Pinot Noir vines from Hyland Vineyard with fruit from the Shea Vineyard. Blending volcanic McMinnville soils with marine sedimentary clays, these distinct parcels are fermented natively to capture the regional tension of the Willamette Valley. The winemaking focuses on gentle extraction to emphasize structural harmony rather than forced fruit power. The resulting bottle showcases how contrasting soil types cooperate beautifully without heavy cellar intervention.
It opens with clear aromas of wild raspberry, pomegranate, and dried rose petals over a background of forest floor. On the palate, a medium-bodied frame showcases fresh black cherry and gentle spice notes. Silky, finely textured tannins give the wine a subtle grip without feeling heavy. A clean thread of allspice and crushed stone carries into the finish, providing a warm contour. It remains dry and focused, leaving a refreshed, mouthwatering impression.
Chris Hermann is a unique figure in the wine world. He is equally at ease in the boardroom advising major wineries and vineyards and in the cellar crafting ultra-premium wines. He co-founded 00 Wines in 2015 alongside his wife Kathryn and his late father Dr. Richard Hermann in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, creating a project that fuses family heritage, ecological insight and winemaking ambition. At 00 Wines Chris applies the same precision and vision: sourcing elite vineyards in the Willamette Valley drawing on Old World techniques including Burgundy-inspired “black Chardonnay” methods and aiming to produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of world-class finesse.
“This is about pushing Chardonnay to its capacity and giving Pinot its voice in a place like Oregon.” — Chris Hermann
