Lady of the Sunshine Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Lady of the SunshineGrape: Sauvignon Blanc
Vintage: 2024
Type: White
This white wine is crafted from high-density, own-rooted sauvignon blanc vines planted in the limestone soils of the Stolpman Vineyard. Winemaker Gina Giugni harvests the biodynamic fruit early to protect a sharp natural acidity baseline. Grapes are foot-tread to soak on the skins overnight before whole-bunch pressing the next morning. The juice ferments spontaneously with native wild yeasts and matures on its fine lees for eight months in old French oak barrels.
It displays a pale straw hue, releasing fresh aromas of grapefruit flesh, green apple, and white flowers over crushed rock. On the palate, a sleek, medium-bodied frame balances orchard fruit flavors with an underlying chiseled mineral core. A lively wave of natural acidity cuts through the slightly creamy texture, keeping the mouthfeel lively. The brief skin maceration provides a subtle structural grip that coordinates nicely with the finish. It concludes bone-dry and clean.
Lady of the Sunshine is the California project of Gina Giugni, a second-generation biodynamic farmer and winemaker based on the Central Coast. Raised at her family's Scar of the Sea and Chene vineyards orbit, she created Lady of the Sunshine to focus on regenerative farming and wines that feel transparent, coastal and alive. Her own Chene Vineyard in Edna Valley is farmed organically and biodynamically, while purchased fruit comes from growers with similar values. The wines, often Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay and playful blends, are made with native yeasts and minimal additions, favoring brightness, texture and a clean imprint of cool Pacific air.
