Lady of the Sunshine Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Lady of the SunshineGrape: Sauvignon Blanc
Vintage: 2025
Type: White
This dry white wine is produced from high-density, own-rooted sauvignon blanc vines planted in the limestone soils of Ballard Canyon. Winemaker Gina Giugni harvests the biodynamic grapes during two separate picks early in September to capture multi-layered acidity. Grapes undergo an overnight skin maceration following a traditional foot tread to build structured phenolics before pressing. The juice ferments spontaneously with native vineyard yeasts and matures for seven months on its lees in neutral French oak.
It shows a bright, pale straw color, opening with a vibrant nose of grapefruit zest, white peach, and fresh garden herbs. On the palate, the patience of the lees aging reveals itself through a crystalline mineral core enveloped by a lightly cushioned texture. Crisp citrus oil and a faint salinity interplay nicely against the natural weight of the fruit. The finish is remarkably taut, long, and clean, leaving a sharp memory of limestone.
Lady of the Sunshine is the California project of Gina Giugni, a second-generation biodynamic farmer and winemaker based on the Central Coast. Raised at her family's Scar of the Sea and Chene vineyards orbit, she created Lady of the Sunshine to focus on regenerative farming and wines that feel transparent, coastal and alive. Her own Chene Vineyard in Edna Valley is farmed organically and biodynamically, while purchased fruit comes from growers with similar values. The wines, often Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay and playful blends, are made with native yeasts and minimal additions, favoring brightness, texture and a clean imprint of cool Pacific air.
