Weingut Moric Hausmarke Rot Solera 2022
MoricGrape: Blaufränkisch, Rotburger, Blauburgunder
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red
This red wine represents a multi-vintage fractional blend combining blaufränkisch, rotburger, and blauburgunder in a traditional solera style. Winemaker Roland Velich assembles this cuvée from estate plots, integrating every harvest from 2012 through 2022 except the 2013 lot. The winemaking utilizes low-intervention protocols, featuring a completely spontaneous fermentation driven by native wild yeasts in neutral wooden tuns. The wine matures naturally without adjustments, focusing on a playful expression of Burgenland fruit.
It displays a bright ruby color, releasing clear notes of fresh currant, juicy red cherry, earth, and wild spice. On the palate, a light-to-medium-bodied frame is exceptionally fresh and agile, reading as a finessed homage to Cru Beaujolais. Soft, fine-grained tannins provide a gentle structural backbone that supports the fruit without dominating the clean mouthfeel. An energetic thread of natural acidity cuts cleanly through the center. It finishes dry, long, and highly drinkable.
Moric is Roland Velich's project in Burgenland, and one of the estates most responsible for restoring Blaufrankisch to serious conversation. Instead of treating the grape as a simple, fruit-driven red, Velich approached it with the sensitivity usually reserved for Burgundy: old vines, specific villages, restrained extraction and aging that emphasizes structure over gloss. The wines come from places such as Lutzmannsburg and Neckenmarkt, where limestone, schist and old vine material give Blaufrankisch depth, spice and nerve. Moric's best bottles are savory and transparent, proving that Austria's great red grape can be both intellectual and deeply pleasurable.
