Pollerhof Vom Loess Bio 2024
PollerhofGrape: Sauvignon Blanc, Grüner Veltliner
Vintage: 2024
Type: White
Produced from estate vineyards in the Weinviertel, this certified organic white wine blends sauvignon blanc and grüner veltliner. Gerald Poller coordinates manual harvesting from vines rooted deeply in thick deposits of loess topsoil. Spontaneous fermentation relies entirely on native vineyard wild yeasts in neutral stainless steel tanks, avoiding modern extraction adjustments or oak contact. It rests undisturbed on its fine fermentation lees to encourage natural structural harmony and subtle texture before bottling.
It pour a pale straw hue, releasing clean aromatics of yellow apple, ripe pear, citrus rind, and delicate white flowers. On the palate, the light-to-medium body is bone-dry and exceptionally crisp, focusing on a linear fruit presentation. A vertical wave of vibrant acidity runs through the center, keeping the fluid mouthfeel thoroughly refreshed. The short lees contact contributes a subtle, creamy texture that frames mid-palate cleanly. It concludes with a clean, lightly savory finish marked by herbal spice.
Pollerhof is a family estate in Austria's Weinviertel, now led by Erwin Poller, whose work gives Gruner Veltliner and other local varieties a playful but serious stage. The estate farms loess and limestone-influenced soils around Roschitz, producing wines that often balance crispness with a charming, slightly offbeat personality. Poller is known for fresh, aromatic whites, sparkling experiments and labels that do not take themselves too seriously, but the farming and cellar work are careful. The wines are clean, bright and peppery, showing the Weinviertel as a place of everyday refreshment with more nuance than its reputation sometimes suggests.
