Kir-Yianni Assyrtiko 2024
Kir-YianniGrape: Assyrtiko
Vintage: 2024
Type: White
This dry white wine is a pure varietal expression of assyrtiko produced from selected vineyard parcels in Northern Greece. Located near the village of Agios Panteleimonas in Florina, the vines grow on the high-altitude Amyndeon plateau between six-hundred and seven-hundred meters elevation. Winemaker Yiannis Boutaris utilizes low-intervention protocols on the poor sandy soils, allowing the hand-picked fruit to ferment spontaneously with native wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks. It matures on its lees to encourage crisp structural balance without wood manipulation.
It displays a vibrant yellow-lemon color, releasing an intense nose of fresh peach, apricot, citrus rind, and white blossoms. A sleek, light-to-medium-bodied frame pairs crisp fruit flavors with a chiseled mineral baseline. A zesty, natural acidity runs through the center of the wine, providing excellent lift and refreshing energy. The texture remains light on its feet, balanced by mineral notes in the background.
Yiannis Boutaris founded Kir-Yianni in 1997, a year after his stepping down from the family business, with the vision to create a premium Greek wine Estate. Visionary, pioneer, maverick with a true ‘vigneron’ soul, his goal was to produce both a prestigious, terroir-driven Greek wine and a quality-driven range for any occasion. He remains the most influential Greek Winemaker around the world, firm believer of collaborative action and source of inspiration for the younger generations of Greek producers. A larger that wine, larger than life personality.
