Grape: Garnacha Tintorera
Vintage: 2021
Type: Red

This low-intervention red wine is produced by the Envínate cooperative from dry-farmed vineyards in the Almansa region of Spain. The old vines are rooted in clay-limestone soils managed under organic viticulture guidelines to optimize natural grape balance. The winemaking involves a spontaneous native yeast fermentation with a high proportion of whole clusters in neutral concrete vats, prioritizing gentle infusion over heavy forced power. The wine matures naturally in neutral containers before being bottled entirely unfiltered.

It pours a dark ruby color with purple edges, opening with complex aromas of wild blackberry, dark plum, and Mediterranean aromatic herbs. A medium-bodied frame pairs concentrated dark fruit flavors with a firm, stem-driven tannin profile. Savory notes of cracked black pepper and crushed limestone develop as the wine breathes. A clean vein of natural acidity runs underneath, keeping the mouthfeel fresh and light. It finishes completely dry, leaving a lingering mineral trail.

Envínate is a collective of four friends who create highly sought-after, terroir-driven wines from distinct, Atlantic-influenced regions across Spain. The name, which translates to "wine yourself," reflects their minimal intervention philosophy, using old-fashioned farming and winemaking methods to allow each parcel to express its character. Founded in 2005 by friends Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, and José Martínez, the group initially started as a winemaking consultancy before evolving into its own label. Envínate's methods involve working with organic and biodynamic principles in the vineyard, followed by fermentation with native yeasts and aging in old oak or concrete. They avoid fining, filtering, and use minimal to no sulfur.
