Moric Hausmarke Super Natural 2023: When Moric magically produces a highly seductive crisp and complex blend of mostly Gruner Veltliner and some Chardonnay we are not surprised. Here seemingly simple ingredients and techniques produce wines that are a far cry from stereotypical fruit-forward expressions, wines that touch a nerve. His Hausmarke ("House Wine") comes across as the quintessential understatement: a highly complex and satisfying white, fresh and lively with hard-to-pin-down notes of citrus and fennel, apparently the entry-level wine at the Moric estate. Unfortunately, the annual availability of this wine is always short-lived. This wine ages beautifully and we recommend putting a few bottles away for the long haul.
Tissot DD 2023: The 'DD' is Stéphane's homage to his father, Andre ("DD"), harking back to a time before Stéphane, when Jura's red wines were typically blends of the region's three native varieties. The 'DD' combines Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir in equal measure. An extremely long and gentle maceration process imparts a tender yet robust structure with broad tannins, creating a delightful and unexpected texture for such a light wine. Vibrant and perfumed red blend from the Jura, a region celebrated for its unique wines. On the nose, it offers bright, wild red fruits like raspberry and cherry, complemented by notes of violet and a hint of white pepper and earthy spice. The palate is light-bodied and juicy with a brilliant acidity, supported by a fine tannic structure. It's a fresh, energetic, and immensely drinkable wine that benefits from a slight chill.
Pierre Menard Orion Alpha Cabernet Franc 2022: The Orion Alpha Cabernet Franc (100%) hails from two plots: one with younger vines, and the other with some very old vines of 65 years at the lower part of the slopes of Clos des Mailles. This marriage between young and old, between fresh vibrance and rich complexity, makes the Orion Alpha an utterly satisfying Cabernet Franc, one that will age well for many years to come! Well worth the wait, if you can handle it. Maceration after destemming for about three weeks, spontaneous fermentation in barrels. No fining or filtration.
