Casa Coste Piane Sur Lie Prosecco NV
Casa Coste PianeGrape: Glera
Vintage: NV
Type: Sparkling
This artisanal sparkling white wine represents a traditional col fondo approach to the glera grape in Valdobbiadene. Casa Coste Piane utilizes low-intervention viticulture on steep hillsides packed with limestone and clay marl soils. The primary fermentation occurs spontaneously with native vineyard yeasts in neutral tanks before secondary fermentation takes place directly inside the bottle. Crucially, the wine skips the standard modern disgorgement process, leaving the natural fermentation lees inside the bottle.
It pours a hazy, lightly cloudy straw-yellow color with a fine, persistent mousse and evident sediment. The nose opens with delicate aromas of green apple skin, citrus rind, and fresh bread dough. On the palate, a soft, rounded, and texturally complex mouthfeel delivers crisp fruit flavors alongside a distinct vein of mineral salinity. A sharp wave of natural acidity cuts through the linear volume, keeping it fresh. It finishes clean, bone-dry, and mouthwateringly light on its feet.
Casa Coste Piane
Loris Follador is from a long line of farmers in Valdobbiadene. Their vineyards, featuring 60+ year old vines, are absurdly steep and the soil is very shallow.
The Folladors are well aware of this fortunate legacy and treat it with the reverence and respect it deserves. No herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers are used. It’s impossible to plow here, but it’s really not necessary with vines of this age; they’ve long ago found their sources deep within the stone formation below.
Hand harvesting of course. Most importantly, the focus on the vinification and the cellar work is to express, as simply and directly as possible, the potential minerality and the terroir of these vines.
Prosecco "Frizzante…Naturalmente" undergoes no physical or chemical treatment during vinification or bottling and this means the wine remains alive and in constant evolution as the natural yeasts in the bottle continue to work.
