This natural dark rosé is an artisanal expression of the Montepulciano grape produced under the cult Tauma label by Davide Pettinella. Sourced from organically worked pergola vines in Abruzzo, the hand-picked fruit undergoes a brief skin maceration to extract a classic deep cherry-pink color. Spontaneous fermentation occurs with native vineyard wild yeasts in neutral containers without temperature controls or modern cellar additions. It settles on its fine lees for several months to encourage natural structural depth prior to bottling unfiltered.

It pour a vibrant cherry-pink color, releasing aromatics of wild pomegranate, blood orange peel, and fresh field flowers. A medium-bodied, texturally driven frame pairs intense red berry flavors with an underlying vein of mineral salinity. A sharp wave of natural acidity slices directly through the volume, keeping the fluid mouthfeel thoroughly refreshed. The robust nature of the grape provides a structural grip that frames mid-palate cleanly.

Pettinella is the Abruzzo project of Giuliano and Francesca Pettinella, former lawyers who turned fully toward the Montepulciano grape. Their small estate works vineyards in two different landscapes: alberello-trained vines around Tocco da Casauria near the Majella massif, and a sea-facing parcel near Silvi. The result is Tauma, a celebrated Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, along with red Montepulciano bottlings that aim to honor the grape without excess. Farming is organic, production is tiny and cellar work is intentionally restrained, with native fermentations, no filtration or clarification and only minimal sulfur when needed.
