Domaine des Ardoisieres Refuge des Ardoisieres Rose Cuvee Rhodonite 2024
Domaine des ArdoisieresGrape: Gamay
Vintage: 2024
Type: Rosé
This low-alcohol alpine rosé is crafted by winemaker Brice Omont from biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy sub-region. The gamay grapes are hand-picked from rows rooted in schistous clay and marl slopes in the Vallée des Bauges. Vinification utilizes a direct press and a spontaneous fermentation driven by native wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks. It ages on its fine lees for nine months, completely avoiding wood barrels or modern cellar corrections.
It pours a pale, shimmering hue, opening with clean aromatics of grapefruit, apricot, and wild strawberry. On the palate, the light-bodied frame is bone-dry and mouthwatering, delivering the saline precision of a white wine alongside a low alcohol content of ten-point-five percent. A sharp wave of alpine acidity runs through the center, keeping the fluid texture clean. Subtle notes of crushed slate and wild herbs add a savory depth. It finishes clean and dry, leaving a mineral trace.
Domaine des Ardoisières is a defining estate of modern Savoie, born from the restoration of abandoned mountain terraces above Cévins in the late 1990s. The project was initiated by Michel Grisard and has been led by Brice Omont since 2005, with vineyards farmed organically and according to biodynamic principles on extraordinarily steep, rocky slopes. The domaine works Alpine varieties including Altesse, Jacquère, Mondeuse, Persan and Mondeuse Blanche, often in field-inspired blends. Native fermentations, restrained sulfur and gentle élevage preserve the wines' vivid acidity, herbal detail and striking mineral intensity, making them reference points for mountain wine.
