Grape: Grenache
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red

This low-intervention red wine is a pure varietal expression of Grenache grown in the clay and limestone hillsides of Montsant. Crafted by Dominik Huber as part of his Terroir Sense Fronteres project, the winemaking focuses on fluid, elegant expressions of the variety. The hand-picked grapes are fermented whole-cluster using native wild vineyard yeasts inside neutral concrete tanks, avoiding wood barrel contact. The liquid matures in concrete vats to allow the mountain terroir to express itself cleanly.

It pours a translucent ruby color, opening with high-toned aromatics of wild raspberry, tart red cherry, and fresh violet petals. On the palate, the light-to-medium-bodied frame is and fluid, focusing on an unmanipulated fruit presentation. Fine-grained, soft tannins provide an understated structural grip that coordinates nicely across the fluid mouthfeel without feeling heavy. A clean line of natural acidity runs through the center, maintaining great freshness and lift.

Terroir Sense Fronteres is Dominik Huber's Montsant project, created after his success with Terroir al Limit in Priorat. The idea is to show the neighboring region's ability to produce Garnacha and Carinena with delicacy, lift and transparency rather than density. Working with high-elevation vineyards around Capcanes and nearby villages, Huber emphasizes organic and biodynamic farming, whole-cluster fermentations, infusion rather than extraction and aging in neutral vessels. The wines are bright, floral and stony, revealing Montsant as more than Priorat's softer sibling. They carry Mediterranean warmth, but with a Burgundian sense of line and aromatic detail.
