Fabio Gea La Msoira e'l Rastel Green Palma Barbera d'Alba 2021
Fabio GeaGrape: Barbera
Vintage: 2021
Type: Red
This artisanal red wine comes from east-facing parcels of old vines situated within the hills of Neive around Barbaresco. Winemaker Fabio Gea manages the tiny plot under organic viticulture protocols, utilizing hand-harvesting to cultivate fruit with natural structural balance. The grapes are fully destemmed and undergo a spontaneous native fermentation driven by wild vineyard yeasts inside neutral open vats. It matures in Gea's custom porcelain containers, completely bypassing standard commercial barrel manipulation.
It pours a dark ruby color with purple edges, opening with clear aromatics of wild blackberry, fresh plum, and a hint of damp earth. A medium-bodied frame balances a juicy, fleshy fruit presentation with a firm tannin structure. A sharp, central thread of natural acidity cuts directly through the volume, keeping the profile lively and fresh. Subtle notes of ground pepper and potting soil develop as the wine sits in the glass. It finishes completely clean and dry.
Fabio Gea:
Fabio is a young winemaker making delicious, distinctive wines from tiny parcels around the Bricco in Barbaresco. He makes 18 different wines with a total production of around 5,000 bottles.
He has a few rows of vines from his grandfather’s property and rents a few more. Within the family’s property, there is Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Grignolino, which amount to less than one hectare.
A geologist turned winemaker, the handmade labels, bottles, and aging are uniquely Fabio Gea. We find these wines fascinating, one of our great joys is having such distinctive wines. Organic (not certified)
