Grape: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2020
Type: Red

This low-intervention red wine is a pure varietal expression of the Nebbiolo grape produced by radical winemaker Fabio Gea near Barbaresco. The old bush vines are rooted in the sandy, marl-rich soils of Bricco di Neive, managed under organic viticulture guidelines. The hand-harvested fruit is destemmed and fermented spontaneously with native wild yeasts, avoiding modern extraction adjustments or new oak barrel contact. It undergoes a natural maturation process inside Gea's custom stoneware jars before being bottled without filtration.

It displays a translucent ruby hue, releasing a rustic bouquet of wild raspberries, red currants, and dried rose petals. On the palate, the light-to-medium body feels compact and tightly wound, balancing red fruit energy with a serious structural line. Savory notes of damp earth and cracked black pepper blend with an underlying mineral salinity. A clean wave of mountain acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining great freshness.

Fabio Gea:

Fabio is a young winemaker making delicious, distinctive wines from tiny parcels around the Bricco in Barbaresco. He makes 18 different wines with a total production of around 5,000 bottles.

He has a few rows of vines from his grandfather’s property and rents a few more. Within the family’s property, there is Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Grignolino, which amount to less than one hectare.

A geologist turned winemaker, the handmade labels, bottles, and aging are uniquely Fabio Gea. We find these wines fascinating, one of our great joys is having such distinctive wines. Organic (not certified)
