Famille Dutraive Beaujolais Villages Lantignie 2022
Famille DutraiveGrape: Gamay
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red
This red wine is a small-batch cru Beaujolais project crafted by the Dutraive family using fruit from Lantignie growers. The hand-harvested Gamay grapes are sourced from plots managed under strict organic viticulture protocols to protect site-specific transparency. The winemaking utilizes a traditional whole-cluster carbonic maceration driven entirely by native wild yeasts in neutral concrete vats, avoiding temperature adjustments. The wine matures on its fine lees in seasoned wooden casks and is bottled with minimal sulfur.
It pours a translucent ruby color, opening with high-toned aromatics of fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, and violet petals. On the palate, a light-to-medium body is remarkably fluid and precise, focusing on an energetic fruit presentation. Taut, fine-grained tannins provide a subtle structural frame across the mid-palate volume without feeling heavy. A clean wave of mountain acidity cuts through the texture, maintaining great freshness. It finishes completely bone-dry, leaving a light berry trace.
Famille Dutraive is a négociant project founded by acclaimed Beaujolais winemaker Jean-Louis Dutraive and his three children, Ophélie, Justin, and Lucas, following a destructive hailstorm in 2016. Located in Fleurie, Beaujolais, the family is renowned for their energetic, fresh, and soulful Gamay wines. To recover after the disastrous 2016 vintage, Jean-Louis established the négociant label to purchase organically-farmed grapes from trusted friends in various Beaujolais crus, including Chiroubles, Saint-Amour, and Chénas. This commitment mirrors the family's practices at their historic estate, Domaine de la Grand'Cour, which is certified organic. Despite being made from purchased fruit, the wines are produced with the same care and philosophy as their estate bottlings, resulting in pure and vibrant expressions of Beaujolais terroir. The project serves as a crucial way to integrate the next generation into the family business, ensuring the continuation of their natural winemaking legacy.
