Grape: Sciaccarellu, Minustello, Carcaghjolu Neru, Nieluccio
Vintage: 2022
Type: Red

Farmed organically and biodynamically on the limestone plateau of Bonifacio, this southern Corsican red wine represents a traditional blend of native varieties. Christian and Nadine Zuria co-ferment sciaccarellu, minustello, carcaghjolu neru, and nieluccio to explore the region's historic viticultural potential. The winemaking utilizes spontaneous native yeast fermentation inside stainless steel tanks, intentionally avoiding oak barrels to protect fruit-forward aromas. This low-intervention cellar process focuses on structural balance and site transparency without modern adjustments.

It pours a clear ruby color, opening with aromas of ripe red fruits, dark cherries, raspberries, and a touch of balsamic spice. On the palate, the medium-bodied frame is soft and fresh, balancing juicy berry flavors with a good, fine-grained tannin framework. Savory notes of ground pepper and limestone earth blend into the fruit core across mid-palate. A clean line of natural acidity cuts through the volume, maintaining excellent freshness. It concludes with a dry, persistent finish.

Domaine Zuria is the family project of Christian and Nadine Zuria, helping revive the vineyard landscape around Bonifacio at the southern tip of Corsica. The work began on family land in 2010, with the aim of restoring a wine culture that had largely disappeared from the area. The vineyards sit on a high, windy plateau above the Mediterranean, where clay-limestone soils give a different setting from the granite found in much of Corsica. Parcels around Stintinu, Musella and Spinella form the estate’s core.

Sciaccarellu is especially important for the reds and rosés, alongside indigenous varieties including Moresconu, Vermentinu, Genovese and Biancu Gentile. Organic farming and a gradual transition toward biodynamic practices reflect the family’s concern for the surrounding ecosystems. The cellar approach is restrained, intended to preserve the character of the grapes and their sites. Wines such as Initiale and the parcel bottlings offer a view of Bonifacio through both its local varieties and its unusual limestone landscape, combining Mediterranean identity with the freshness of an exposed coastal plateau.
