This white Rioja co-ferments nine varieties including chardonnay, grenache blanc, viognier, roussette, marsanne, sauvignon blanc, muscat, petit manseng, and riesling. Telmo Rodríguez prioritizes site specificity through field co-planting on high-altitude estate terraces in Labastida. Hand-harvested grapes from calcareous clay soils are pressed together and undergo spontaneous fermentation driven by native wild yeasts in old oak casks. Matured on fine lees, it delivers an authentic mountain identity.

It pours a pale yellow color, opening with a precise, flinty nose of seashell, oyster shell, white sesame, and lime. On the palate, the full-bodied, gastronomic frame balances orchard fruit flavors with an underlying chiseled line of mineral acidity. Savory layers of chalk and citrus rind seamlessly wrap around a broad, texturally rich mouthfeel. The architectural focus ensures balance and definition across the mid-palate volume. It finishes dry, clean, and persistently long, leaving a mouthwatering mineral impression.

Winery

Remelluri is a historic estate near Labastida, in Rioja Alavesa, whose modern chapter began when Jaime Rodríguez Salís purchased the property in 1967. His children Telmo and Amaia Rodríguez have developed its vineyard, cultural and environmental work, with Pablo Eguzkiza contributing to the winemaking. The mountain setting below the Sierra de Toloño and the recovery of old vineyards are central to the project. Rather than treating Rioja as a single blended style, Remelluri focuses on the character of its own place.

Organic cultivation, traditional bush vines and attention to the suitability of each variety for its parcel guide the farming. The estate reds draw on traditional Rioja grapes, while the white offers a more unusual interpretation through a blend of several varieties. Granja Remelluri Gran Reserva selects old-vine parcels at higher elevations, giving a more concentrated view of the property. Across the range, careful vinification and patient maturation support wines intended to develop over time, linking the family’s restoration of the land with a renewed emphasis on vineyard identity.
