Domaine Zuria Initiale Blanc 2023
Domaine ZuriaGrape: Bianco Gentile, Vermentino, Genovese
Vintage: 2023
Type: White
This dry white wine is an artisanal blend of bianco gentile, vermentino, and genovese from the southern tip of Corsica near Bonifacio. Founded by Christian and Nadine Zuria, the estate focuses on reviving the traditional viticulture of the local limestone plateau. The family manages the human-scale vineyard plots under strict certified organic and biodynamic viticulture guidelines. The fruit undergoes a spontaneous native yeast fermentation inside stainless steel tanks to protect site-specific freshness from oxygen or wood interference.
It pours a pale straw hue, releasing refined, intense aromas of fresh citrus, white flowers, and sea spray. A light-to-medium-bodied frame is lively and precisely balanced, pairing orchard fruit flavors with an underlying stony mineral core. A bracing wave of maritime salinity runs through the center, keeping the fluid mouthfeel thoroughly refreshed. The distinct blend of native varieties provides a smooth texture across mid-palate. It finishes completely dry, leaving a delicate mineral trace.
Winery
Domaine Zuria is the family project of Christian and Nadine Zuria, helping revive the vineyard landscape around Bonifacio at the southern tip of Corsica. The work began on family land in 2010, with the aim of restoring a wine culture that had largely disappeared from the area. The vineyards sit on a high, windy plateau above the Mediterranean, where clay-limestone soils give a different setting from the granite found in much of Corsica. Parcels around Stintinu, Musella and Spinella form the estate’s core.
Sciaccarellu is especially important for the reds and rosés, alongside indigenous varieties including Moresconu, Vermentinu, Genovese and Biancu Gentile. Organic farming and a gradual transition toward biodynamic practices reflect the family’s concern for the surrounding ecosystems. The cellar approach is restrained, intended to preserve the character of the grapes and their sites. Wines such as Initiale and the parcel bottlings offer a view of Bonifacio through both its local varieties and its unusual limestone landscape, combining Mediterranean identity with the freshness of an exposed coastal plateau.
