Benedicte & Stephane Tissot Macvin du Jura Rouge 2018

Grape: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2022
Type: Sweet Wines

This sweet fortified red wine comes from biodynamically grown Pinot Noir vines rooted in the complex marl and limestone soils of Arbois. Stéphane and Bénédicte Tissot stop the native yeast fermentation by adding one-third house-distilled Marc du Jura brandy to the grape juice. This traditional fortified process preserves the natural grape sugars while raising the final alcohol level. It undergoes a prolonged aging process in neutral French oak casks to allow the brandy and fruit components to settle.

It pours a deep garnet-ruby color, opening with expressive aromas of black cherry compote, dried cranberry, and warm leather. On the palate, the full-bodied, sweet frame balances a rich, slightly oily texture with a firm line of natural acidity. The high-altitude acidity combines with an earthy tannin grip that grounds the sweetness. It finishes long, clean, and balanced, leaving a savory trace of forest floor.

Stéphane Tissot and his wife Bénédicte have 35 hectares of vineyards “cultivated in bio-dynamic viticulture (certified by Demeter) to allow the soils to live, to have grapes untouched by chemical products, to allow natural yeast fermentations, to reduce the doses of sulfur in the cellar.”

They produce truly unique, terroir-driven natural wines, wines we love, admire, and cherish. These are without doubt some of our most prized wines.

André and Mireille Tissot founded their estate in 1962, in the village of Montigny-les-Arsures, in the Jura. Stéphane took over from his father with a new vision and converted it to chemical-free farming, organic and then biodynamic. They are meticulous in their farming and in the cellar, producing up to 28 unique cuvees.

A wine made with love and passion produces an emotion...
You can find in a wine the personality and the character of those who made it because each gesture, each operation, each decision has its importance.
