Giovanni Almondo Roero Rosso 2023
Giovanni AlmondoGrape: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2023
Type: Red
Sourced from high-altitude, sandy hillside vineyards in Montà within the Roero sub-region, this single-varietal red comes from family-managed plots farmed without harsh chemical inputs. The hand-harvested nebbiolo ferments spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, utilizing a brief, temperature-controlled maceration to extract fine, supple tannins without heavy astringency. Aging takes place in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks to allow the wine's lifted, floral side to flourish without wood masking. Bottled with minimal intervention, this is a fresh, highly aromatic expression of sandy-soil nebbiolo that offers a lighter, more nimble counterpoint to traditional Langhe bottlings.
A translucent ruby color with orange highlights introduces fragrant aromas of wild strawberry, sour cherry, crushed rose petals, and dried oregano. On the palate, focused flavors of cranberry, red plum, orange zest, and ground white pepper are supported by fine, dusty tannins and a vibrant beam of natural acidity. The mouthfeel is light, elegant, and energetic, gliding across the palate with crunchy red-fruit clarity. It finishes clean, dry, and savory, leaving a mouthwatering impression of wet slate, dried citrus peel, and crushed stone.
