Grape: Zibibbo
Vintage: 2022
Type: Orange

This 100% Zibibbo comes from tiny, terraced bush vines grown on the volcanic island of Pantelleria. Sourced from sandy, volcanic soils heavily influenced by Mediterranean sea winds, the 2022 vintage undergoes a brief maceration on the skins to draw out aromatics and structure. The wine is then aged in neutral vessels to preserve the hyper-local mineral and saline character of the island without introducing outside flavors. It is a vibrant, incredibly territorial white wine that captures the pure essence of its sun-baked landscape.

It pours a hazy, golden-yellow color and opens with bright aromas of orange blossom, fresh citrus peel, and wild Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the brief skin contact provides a beautifully chalky, textured mouthfeel within a light-to-medium body. Flavors of ripe peach and a touch of caper brine keep the profile intensely savory rather than sweet. A sharp, sea-spray acidity cuts through the aromatic weight, finishing clean with a lingering, mouthwatering mineral impression.

Tanca Nica is a tiny Pantelleria estate run by Francesco Ferreri and Nicoletta Bocca, working old bush vines on the island's black volcanic soils. Pantelleria is better known for sweet Passito di Pantelleria, but Tanca Nica explores a broader, wilder language for Zibibbo, Catarratto, Pignatello and other local grapes. Farming here is necessarily heroic: low alberello vines crouch against wind, drought and sun, often in small stone-walled parcels. The wines are made with minimal intervention and can be dry, macerated, salty and intensely Mediterranean, carrying caper, citrus peel, herbs, sea air and the isolation of the island.
