Grape: Ribolla Gialla
Vintage: 2020
Type: Orange

This skin-contact orange wine is a pure varietal expression of the thick-skinned ribolla gialla grape from the amphitheater-like terraces of Oslavia. The organically farmed fruit grows on mineral-dense ponca soils, which concentrate the natural grape phenolics. Saša Radikon implements a traditional three-month skin maceration inside large neutral wood vats using native wild vineyard yeasts and no temperature control. It matures for three to four years in large Slavonian oak botti and rests an additional year in bottle before a five-hundred milliliter bottling.

It pours a deep amber-orange hue with copper glints, opening with complex aromatics of dried orange peel, apricot compote, black tea, and beeswax. A medium-to-full-bodied frame balances a rich fruit concentration with a sharp line of alpine acidity. A powerful, tea-like tannin structure frames the mouthfeel cleanly, balancing the extract-rich physical weight of the liquid. It finishes long, dry, and savory, leaving a persistent trail of stone.

Radikon is one of the foundational names of the modern skin-contact and natural-wine movement. Based in Oslavia, in Friuli near the Slovenian border, the Radikon family built its identity around long macerations for white grapes, minimal sulfur and a deeply traditional approach that had become radical by modern standards. Stanko Radikon helped bring these methods to international attention, and the estate continues under his family with Ribolla Gialla, Jakot, Pinot Grigio and other varieties. The wines are amber, structured and savory, less about novelty than about reviving a borderland culture of patience, texture and uncompromising farming.
